Two Arlington Community High School students are facing school disciplinary and court proceedings after Indianapolis Public Schools Police caught them stealing 21 laptops from School 60 on Monday night and early today.

Officers first responded to William A. Bell School 60, 3330 N. Pennsylvania St., at 10:30 p.m. on Monday and found that several laptops had been stolen from the school’s media center. They responded again at 2:22 a.m. today and found that more laptops had been stolen. Police returned to the school after another alarm at 3:18 a.m. and saw two boys emerge from the school, a news release from the district said.

One boy was detained immediately, but the other ran into the school and later got away, the release said. Officers later went to both boys’ homes, and found the stolen laptops.

The two boys taken into custody are students in Arlington’s program for “overage/underperforming” students, which works with children who are behind two or more grade levels.

The boys are suspended pending expulsion proceedings and have been referred to juvenile court on charges of burglary, trespassing and fleeing law enforcement, IPS spokeswoman Kim L. Hooper said.
