There has been a bevy of controversy surrounding the topic of Animal Care and Control in our community. Last year a group of residents filed a grievance against the former Animal Control leadership revealing the horrific conditions at the facility on Harding Street. Subsequently, a new director was hired and conditions have improved dramatically.

Despite this, our community is in imminent danger of losing our new director to political power struggles stirred up by those who are interested in continuing the practice of killing most of our homeless animals instead of finding them new homes. If the new director is ousted, our city will likely revert to old practices where most of the animals leave the shelter in body bags. Please contact Mayor Greg Ballard immediately if you care about the plight of homeless animals and ask that he give Animal Control Director Doug Rae a chance to make a real difference in our community. Mayor Ballard can be reached at: (317) 327-3601 or online at www.indy.gov.
