Anderson considers closing four schools
ANDERSON, Ind. — Four elementary schools would be closed in the Anderson Community Schools under a proposal to pare down a budget deficit the central Indiana district is facing.
The district’s top administrator also proposed either closing one of the district’s two high schools or converting both into schools with grades seven through 12.
Interim Superintendent Lennon Brown urged the School Board to decide no later than December on how to close a projected $9 million budget shortfall during the next three years.
The proposals come less than a year after the district closed two elementaries and a middle school. If the new closings are approved, the district would have five grade schools remaining.
The district’s enrollment has declined to about 9,200 students from nearly 10,400 five years ago.
