Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre won’t be performing your grandmother’s ballet when it takes on “The Casket Girls.”

The show is described on its Web site (www.thecasketgirls.com) as a “modern-gothic-alternative-vampire ballet” that is “set to music that blends styles from Mozart to Nine Inch Nails.”

Commissioned by Cory Gabel, the audience becomes part of the action by adding their thoughts to the show’s Web site or Facebook page.

Interactive vampire shows? Welcome to 2009.

Theater: ‘And Ya Don’t Stop’

When: 8 p.m. Oct. 10.

Where: Earth House, 237 N. East St.

Tickets: $12 advance, $15 at the door. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/aydshiphopplay.>

The process of creating Indy’s first hip-hop play has been an open book — er — Web site for the public to follow. From casting (with local hip-hop stars) to rehearsals and a trial show in front of an audience, viewers have been part of the entire process.

On Oct. 24, the final production of “And Ya Don’t Stop” heads to the Earth House.

The play — from Nicole Kearney Productions — is about a hip-hop trio at a crossroads when they discover that a record company only wants to sign one of them, Supreme, the emcee. Supreme, who’s “embittered, under contract and estranged from his crew, unwillingly goes on a journey guided by the three spirits of hip-hop to help him regain his sense of self and return to his hip-hop roots.”

Music: Who’s Bad: Michael Jackson Tribute

When: 10 p.m. (doors open at 9 p.m.) Sept. 11.

Where: The Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave.

Tickets: $8. For more information, call (317) 259-7029, or visit www.thevogue.ws.

The word “tribute” officially takes on a new meaning when the act being paid homage to is no longer alive. So it goes for “Who’s Bad: Michael Jackson Tribute,” which makes a tour stop at the Vogue.

I’m making no claims about Jackson’s personal life, but there’s no denying his show is worth a copycat performance.

Literary: ‘Big Curiosities: A Miniseries of Mysterious Events’

When: 7 p.m. Sept. 30.

Where: Indianapolis-Marion County Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St. Inside the Clowes Auditorium.

Tickets: Free. For more information, call (317) 275-4100.

We finally have the chance to hear from a real Sasquatchologist.

Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum, a professor of anatomy and anthropology at Idaho State University, wrote “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science” in which he takes a pretty sane look at something that is, so far, unexplainable legend.

During this event, Meldrum will discuss his research on Sasquatch and preview Big Car Gallery’s Bigfoot-themed art exhibition opening in Oct. 2.

Visual art: Masterpiece in a Day

When: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 19.

Where: 1043 Virginia Ave. (in front of the Murphy Art Center in Fountain Square).

Tickets: Free for participants and spectators. For more information, visit www.discoverfountainsquare.com.

Artist? Writer? Spectator? All three will be part of this year’s Masterpiece in a Day.

The long-running art and writing contest in Fountain Square gives artists a chance to show off their stuff — while onlookers, well, look on. The best part? Winners get prizes totaling $4,000.

The art and writing contests begin at 9 a.m. Completed artwork and writings are due for judging at 3:30 p.m., with the winners announced around 4:30 p.m.

Also part of the day’s fun is the Fountain Square Art Fair.
