ATLANTA (AP) — The city of Atlanta is once again attracting talent for American Idol.

More than 9,200 show hopefuls arrived Thursday at the Georgia Dome, some before dawn. The aspiring singers are hoping to become contestants on the ninth season of the hit television show.

Show producer Patrick Lynn says people who audition in Atlanta know how to sing well. The show's host and the Idol judges were not attending these auditions, but are expected to be in Atlanta in August.

Auditions for the popular Fox TV show will be held during the next few weeks in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando, and Denver. One audition has already been held in Massachusetts.
