The Indianapolis International Airport needs a few good people to volunteer to become ambassadors for the city, the airport and Hoosier hospitality.

Airport ambassadors, who must be at least 18 years old, will help greet, assist, and direct passengers and visitors and provide general information about the airport and the community.

Anyone living in Indianapolis or surrounding areas with an interest in and enthusiasm for the airport and the community are encouraged to become team members, according to a news release today from Susan Sullivan, the airport spokeswoman.

The Indianapolis Airport Authority is partnering with several groups to sweeten the deal for volunteers.

Students in tourism, travel, and hospitality programs at IUPUI and Ivy Tech may receive internships.

All volunteers will receive training and uniforms. Other perks include free parking at the airport while on and off duty. There will be discounts at participating airport restaurants and retailers.

There will be free admission to the Indiana State Museum and opportunities for passes to tour the President Benjamin Harrison Home, Morris-Butler House, the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Tobias Theatre, James Whitcomb Riley Museum Home, and other local attractions.

Volunteers accepted in the program may receive box seat tickets for the Indianapolis Indians games next season, opportunities for gift certificates to downtown restaurants, including the Skyline Club, Shula’s Steak House, and Santorini Greek Kitchen, and gift cards to the Mass Ave Wine Shoppe.

Volunteers must agree to spend at least one four-hour work shift a week. Bi-lingual skills are a plus. Applications are being accepted through the Indianapolis International Airport’s Human Resource Department.
