Adult day-care service needs help to expand
The Joy’s House adult day-care service is kicking off a campaign this week that will let donors choose how to help the non-profit group expand its reach.
The little yellow house on Broad Ripple Avenue is in the midst of a $2 million expansion that will give caregivers and their clients much-needed space, said Tina McIntosh, founder and president. The 9,000-square-foot addition to the house needs furnishings, and Joy’s House is reaching out to donors. Through its Web site, www.spreadingjoy.org, donors can pick out exactly what they want to purchase — from a $5 computer cord to a $5,566 sectional couch.“We’ll buy exactly what we tell them we will buy,’’ McIntosh said. When Joy’s House opened nine years ago, six to eight adults came every day. Now, the facility is at capacity with 23, McIntosh, said. About 50 adults are on their monthly roster.Even though they are at capacity, Joy’s House is still accepting new guests and will be able to expand services once they get fully moved into their new digs in June or July. Some things will move to the new space as early as May to allow for a renovation of the existing house.Call Star reporter Gretchen Becker at (317) 444-6198.
