Belkin electronics (available at most our local retailers such as Target, Fry’s, The Apple Store, Wal Mart ect.) has a really cool new device for conserving electricity and surge protection to boot. It’s called the Belkin Conserve and it has 6 outlets that can be shut off and 2 outlets for electronics that need to always be on such as a DVR. It operates with a small wireless battery remote about the size of a light switch. The device shuts down whatever is plugged into it as well as offering a very good amount of surge protection. They run about $36 bucks at the Home Depot. Worth testing out – the only thing I wonder is what I would keep in the “always on” outlet. Also available at www.belkin.com.
