With the "Dark Knight" hype in full swing at this point (though really it's been going on online for months already, what with the viral ad campaign and all), there's been big discussion about whether Robin should be added to the series.
Before you get all excited evoking the unholy Schumacher "Batman" films, let's look at this from all sides.
It's been reported that Christian Bale threatened to pull out of the series if Robin comes on board, but there's some discussion about the veracity of the reported statements.
I know during publicity for "Batman Begins" Nolan said he wasn't interested in Robin at this point, then rumors started cropping up that the little boy Batman befriends in "Begins" was little Dick Grayson (recall in "Begins" a boy stumbles upon Batman listening in on bad guys and has a conversation with him, saying something to the effect of "no one will believe me," before Bats folds up the device he's using and flips it to the kid).
Here's a bit from joblo.com imploring Nolan NOT to bring in Robin, BTW. It certainly ended up a disaster in Schumacher's "Batman and Robin," and with mixed results in "Batman Forever."
In an interview with MTV, famed comic book writer Jeph Loeb said Robin would be a welcome addition, and has a decent-sounding vision for what Nolan's Robin would be. Check it out here.
My feelings on it are that, done properly, and with a younger, more apprentice-like, and maybe more disturbed and vulnerable Robin, it could bring a whole new angle to the Bruce Wayne and Batman character(s), and I'm all for it, especially if that setup is accurate and that was Dick Grayson on the fire escape in "Begins."
What do you guys think pre-"Dark Knight"? Robin or no, maybe as an introduction in the next film?
Nah
Holy gee willikers I hope they don't bring Robin into it
I WANT ROBIN IN THE NEXT BATMAN MOVIE!!!!!!!!!! BATMAN NEEDS ROBIN!!!!
Robin makes Batman feel like a father figure and an older brother and provides light into Batman's dark world! Batman has always been fun when Robin is with him. When I first saw Batman in The New Adventures of Batman in 1977 Robin was always with him and when I got my first Batman comic Robin wasn't with him and I found it very weird.
Robin can be done right and could bring in Tim Drake the current Robin who is very updated and smart and not the awkward sidekick from the TV series or Dick Grayson(Robin) from the Dark Victory graphic novel.
I want the Batman that I grew up on. Batman and Robin! The Dynamic Duo! But updated with Robin just as dark as Batman is and Robin(Grayson) could wear the red costume and black cape that Tim Drake currently wears and he could act like Tim Drake and not the original Grayson(Robin) from the TV series. I WANT TO SEE BATMAN WITH HIS BUDDY ROBIN BACK ON THE SCREEN IN 2010 OR 2011! WHO'S BATMAN WITHOUT HIS BUDDY!
