I wanted to share my child with the rest of the world, but I'm not sure I'm ready to hear what the world thinks of my child parents always think their child is the best, smartest, most funny, etc. I like to think my child has 'potential' and so I'm going to show you just the smallest glimpse of my child because I don't want people to assume i'm not proud of my child..I am it's just scary to allow her out into the world to wander as she will
"They had reached the front doors, and Jade marveled at their size, it was as if they had each been created out of a separate tree, and were made for giants instead of mere mortals, or even vampires. There was an onyx pedestal to the right of the huge double doors, and on top of it was what appeared to be a security pad. Had this been a normal business or house even, this would have required a person seeking entrance to place their hand on the pad for their fingerprints to be taken. This was not a normal business or house, this was the vampire palace, so when Aldora placed her hand on the security pad, a blade shot through her palm, split into three separate blades, much like a grappling hook, and pinned her hand to the pad. Jade knew that this little security feature would hold most intruders until the vampires' security team (led by Mordecai) could respond to the security breach. The ends of the grappling hook took a sample of blood from Aldora's hand, and once her identity had been established, the hooks withdrew from her hand and the blade sank back into the security pad.
This was another reason Jade hated entering through the main entrance of the palace, if they had gone to Aldora's private entrance, then all Aldora would have needed to do would be to input her security code on a touch key pad and prick her finger. In Jade's opinion, the vampires didn't really need the grappling hook device; they just liked to impress their guests. Jade was glad that only Aldora's identity had to be verified. Any human entering the palace was required to be accompanied by a vampire, this spared the humans the pain of having to pass the security clearance. Since she was Aldora's guest, and a human, Jade could enter the palace without having her hand impaled, something for which she was extremely grateful.
Aldora removed her hand from the security pad and absentmindedly licked the blood from her palm. The wound was already completely healed, another perk of being of noble blood. The higher-ranking vampires, whose blood was more pure, were able to heal themselves extremely quickly, while those who had a weaker bloodline took longer to heal any injuries. Aldora wiped the blood off the back of her hand with her thumb, and looked at Jade. Jade knew what was expected, and offered Aldora both her wrists, with her palms up. Aldora smeared the blood from her hand onto both of Jade's offered wrists.
This gesture meant that Jade was under Aldora's protection. If any harm were to come to Jade it would be Aldora's right to exact a punishment to whoever harmed her. It also meant that anything Jade did reflected back on Aldora, if Jade did something to anger one of the elders or any vampire, it would be Aldora who would be challenged to a duel or punished for Jade's mistakes.
Wow! I'm not a writer, but that's really good! You paint a very good mental picture. How far along are you with this book? This sample read like it is well into the story. If you are well into the story, do you have a projected time-line for completion? When you are done, perhaps you could put on Indy.com when and where a book signing would be. If this site IS to be a community, that is the kind of thing community members should be interested in. I am!
really good! you really do paint a great mental picture. how much more do you have to go on it?
