I've been perusing a list of upcoming festivals and such that are happening in smaller towns around Indiana. Here are a few:
There's a bluegrass festival in Mansfield:

The All-American Country Hoedown in Campbellsburg, described thusly:

If you like Bluegrass, probably the most well know Bluegrass festival is the Bill Monroe festival in Bean Blossom, IN (just north of Nashville). That takes place June 14-21 this year.
Most of the other festivals I can think of off the top of my head happen in the Fall.
