The roots of country music are despair, pain, sorrow and anguish expressed through song. Drinking, prison, hitting the road, loving and leaving women--these are the classic themes in country. There are no flip-flops in country music. There is no Margaritaville or sandy beaches to the Outlaws. There is Whitey Morgan.
Whitey Morgan hails from Flint, Michigan. That's nowhere near Nashvegas. The factories are closed, jobs are scarce and the people are bitter. Whitey sings songs these people can relate to. In the spirit of Waylon, Merle and Willie; Whitey's melodies help people forget their problems for a few hours and serve as the guideline for drinking sorrows away. The halftime groove brings out everyone's dancing shoes and while Whitey plays, the world is a better place.
This has not gone unnoticed outside of Flint, as Whitey Morgan has shared the stage with Shooter Jennings, David Alan Coe, Hank Williams III, Richie Albright and Leon Russell. The acclaim for his voice and style has been universal and resounding.
As new country dominates the airwaves, Whitey Morgan continues to build a following as a counterpoint. The fad of pop-country music will fade, as all fads do. Roots music will always be present, from blues to rock to the outlaw country that Whitey exudes from his soul. As Richie Albright implored him to "Keep it Alive," we can trust that the roots of country music are in good hands--the hands of Whitey Morgan.
Here's the basics: Four guys strap on acoustic instruments and make a lot of clatter (hollering about killing folks with knives, and guns, and poison, etc.) that sounds vaguely 'grassy, but is mostly just noisy. One of the guys plays a banjo and we have a drummer, but we aren't ashamed.
JAVELINAS hold the gas can and the torch to the bonfire saluting years of growing up listening, learning, burning into their souls cassettes/vinyl/8trk of the history of Rock music from the late 60's, through the massive explosion of the 70's rock gods, punk underground and Americana roots. Years of experience, triumphs, disasters, grand slams, depressions and realizations are the grounds for an amazing rock and roll machine. This is what makes JAVELINAS such a monster. With a 20yr history of making records, deals, touring incessantly, starting their own record label, radioplay, and supporting some of rock and rolls icons, the four members of Javelinas within the last 3yrs have created one of the most formidable rock/Americana bands to hit the pavement. ............................... Biography Once upon a time, in the early 2000's there was a 5pc Chicago rock/alt-country/hillbilly-swag band called the Flat Mean Tires. They had an interesting 2 year run before a firey implosion took effect. During that time, they supported acts such as Bobby Bare Jr., The Blasters, Front of Truck, John Langford and could be regularly caught at Chicago's Hideout, Beat Kitchen and House of Blues. After the mind-numbing implosion, two of the Flat Mean Tires found themselves crawling from the rubble, a bit scarred but still hungry for the power of rock music. Detroit native, singer/songwriter Chris McInnis & singer/songwriter, loud rock guitarist SPIV continued to talk about re-structuring the band & firing down some fresh jams. With the concrete-solid addition of concrete rocker Dan Postlewait on the bass guitar and the Chitown via Boston route Chris Glynn on the drums , the group reformed under the moniker JAVELINAS in 2003. Since the release of Dirtbath in 2005, they've had the pleasure of sharing the stage with the Legendary Dick Dale as well as some notable Chicago / Midwestern regional acts, tons of Chi-town & regional music fests, as well as rocking the legendary CBGB's in NYC just before it closed it's doors!. Rock and roll music. Guitars, drums, and stories are the core of JAVELINAS. 4pc rock and roll band that proudly carry an open book of where they've been, where they desire to be, and what they are working on. No padding the ledger.
