Eric Kim, longtime principal cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, is the latest high-profile musician appointed to the full-time faculty at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Kim will go to work full time on the Bloomington campus in fall 2009, having taught there part-time since 2006. He has been with the Cincinnati Symphony since 1989, and teaches at Michigan's Interlochen Center for the Arts. Kim's appointment is the latest in a series of high-profile hires since 2004. Others have included pianist Andre Watts, violinists Jaime Laredo, Alexander Kerr and Joshua Bell, and sopranos Carol Vaness and Sylvia McNair. A New York City native, Kim has bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School.
