The stories I've heard about Chuck E. Cheese make it sound like a circle of hell that even Dante would have refused to enter. The wailing of children, the gnashing of parental teeth. The horror, the horror. Naturally, I wanted to go, so a friend of mine agreed to take me.
I am happy to report that I enjoyed the experience. The ski ball, the pinball, the miniature basketball, my old balls cavorting in a candy-colored wonderland of flashing lights and sticky surfaces and robotic mice; all this spoke to my inner child which is actually pretty much outer and not difficult to please. I will say that the food, at least what I had of it, is quite thoroughly vile. This restaurant will not be getting a Michelin star anytime soon. But going to Chuck E. Cheese for the food is like going to church to hear a well-reasoned argument. It is not the purpose for which the edifice was erected.
I loved the place! My kids are grown now (20, 18, 18, 18) so I havn't been in a while. We drove by the one in Castleton this Saturday and I mentioned how I used to enjoy taking the kids there. My daughter said she would like to go again! woo hoo! I'm keeping my eyes open for some coupons!

You should hit up their web site:

The friend who took me got some coupons there that allowed each of us to get $25 worth of tokens for $10. In return for that investment, with our winning tickets combined, I got a rubber ball. But it's a rubber ball with Chuck's face on it!
Yah, you can print coupons from their website or find them in the Indy Star on Sunday. Chuck E. Cheese would be great if it wasn't for all the darn kids. Every game is only one token (compared to $1-2 per game for a lot of the same machines at places like Jillians) and you can get tokens for around 12-15 cents each with the right coupon.
The one in Avon has Pirates of the Carribean pinball and a really cool sit-down Mario Kart machine with a built in cam that takes your picture and slaps it on the screen as your avatar. Skeeball and the shooting games are also always fun.
