Take a look at Downtown's recently renovated City Market. Better yet, stop in on a Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. from now through October and scout fresh produce and other seasonal treats at the Indianapolis Farmers Market (on Market between Alabama and Delaware streets).
Those carrying on local traditions inside the market include Constantino's and Moody Meats. Advertisement
"From gate to plate" is the Moody mantra for the care and keen standards it maintains for its organic beef, lamb, poultry and pork. No one knows better than Moody's market butcher Joe Wurster, whose great-grandparents established Wurster Fine Meats here more than a century ago.
Across the aisle from Moody Meats, Theresa Mascari -- along with daughters Antonia and Concetta and other family members -- carries on the legacy of Constantino's, a produce market (featuring exotic fruits and vegetables), full-service deli (specializing in salads and paninis) and fine cheese vendor.
The City Market, 222 E. Market St., is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. To view the complete list of market merchants and upcoming events, check out www.indycm.com.
City Market is a real jewel for Downtown. I personally prefer the Broad Ripple farmer's market on Saturdays, but the downtown one is good, too.
Ooo...morels...nice pic. I wonder what those are selling for.
Moodies Meats sometimes has baked ribs or baked chicken. Yummy.
I prefer the Amers/the middle eastern place. Good food.
We just finally got to the renovated City Market this weekend. Rictor, those morels were $39.99/lb. Also, Constantino's muffulletta sandwich was AMAZING!!
