I was reading an article about magic in the New Yorker (not available as a link, sorry), and it got me thinking about a couple of things.
First, does anyone know of any places in Indy where you can see magic performed on a regular basis? I know there used to be a club like that, but I'm not sure if it's still around.
Second, do you have any favorite magicians? I tend not to be impressed by the guy in rhinestones who comes out and makes the Statue of Liberty disappear or something. I think it's because I know that there's some very overt trickery involved in that. There's wacky stuff going on with the cameras and rotating stages and so forth. I prefer the sleight of hand artists who stand directly in front of you and make you feel stupid. People like Ricky Jay and even the dreaded David Blaine.
Does anyone else have any thoughts?
