Humane Society Background and Mission:

Established in 1905, the Humane Society of Indianapolis was the area's first animal welfare shelter in Indiana and remains the largest to date. Our mission is to provide shelter and comfort to animals in need on the path to loving lifetime homes. In a caring and nurturing environment, the work of HSI deepens the bond between people and their companion animals. Whether you are ready to adopt a new pet, turn over an animal to our care, participate in canine obedience training, give your dog a run in our Pet Park or volunteer your time to help our animals, you can celebrate your love of animals at HSI.

The Humane Society of Indianapolis is funded solely through donations from individuals, corporations and foundations in our community. We do not receive any funding from animal protection societies, nor receive any tax or governmental support.
