I visited Lincoln Square Restaurant, a quaint Eastside eatery, with my husband and was pleasantly impressed with the quality of the service and the food.
Lunchtime was full of activity for this small joint, crammed in between hotels and businesses. But those who take the time to find Lincoln Square, us included, are in for a yummy delight.
The mood
I've got zip to say about the decor. My guess? The dining room has gone unchanged since 1992.
No matter. The people make all the difference anyway. Our server's friendly manner made us believe that there was nowhere else she'd rather be, and nothing else she'd rather be doing.
The customers had smiles on and most looked like regulars. The crowd was older, yes, but that didn't stop us from having a great time and a great meal.
The food
After the hostess lead us to a cozy booth by the window, we began our hunt through the varied menu. Any craving you have can be satisfied at Lincoln Square. Ribs? Stir-fry? Pasta? Salad? What about grilled beef liver?
One of their specialties is a grilled Spanish tilapia covered with onions, green peppers, spinach, tomatoes and spices. Our server had to stop by our table two or three times so I could make up my mind. In the meantime, we were treated to warm rolls. Hayden had long since decided on the chicken Oscar -- a chicken breast smothered in a mixture of crab meat, broccoli, mushrooms, Swiss cheese and hollandaise sauce, served with mashed potatoes ($7.49). Italian wedding soup was his side of choice.
I didn't get my mitts on the chicken, but the soup was delicious, with spiced meatballs swimming in broth and tons of veggies and pasta.
The gyro pita finally caught my eye ($6.99) with split pea soup as a side, which, even on a hot day, hit the spot. For the gyro, a warm pita was filled with meat, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, and cucumber sauce, but I didn't expect such great flavor. Lincoln Square cooks everything -- and well.
The drinks
Hayden chose an iced tea, and I got a Diet Coke (both $1.79). Both were refilled without prompting our server.
The damage: $19.50
Blue carpet, bluehairs and white plastic chairs aside, Lincoln Square is a great little place to visit if you're in the mood for, well, anything.
