Today:
As I was watching the election returns last night (I was hoping Obama would win just to make CBS News look foolish for calling the race early. No dice.) I began to think of movies involving politics.
All The President's Men: An excellent job was done of making the rather tedious job of the journalist seem suspenseful and exciting. And watching Nixon bite the big one will be entertaining until the end of time.
Wag The Dog: Remember this one? A President gets involved in a sex scandal and decides to start a fake war to divert the public's attention. This movie came out just as the Monica Lewinsky scandal was breaking. It's the most amazing example of psychic film making ever.
The Manchurian Candidate: I'm talking the original here. For my money, this is the best movie made about the McCarthy era. The legend of the film is only helped by the fact that, after it's initial release, it was locked in a vault and unseen by the public for decades.
Wag The Dog: Wow that movie kinda hit home after 9/11 didn't it?
Another one I really liked was "True Colors" with John Cusack and James Spader.
Head of the State - Chris Rock
Sarcasm
Loose Change - Some of the "facts" in that documentary scare me. I can't believe everything in there, but it's not impossible.
Dave-that scene where he goes into the budget to slash spending so he can save a youth program gets me every time.
It might be cheesy, but it's still a great film
12 Angry Men.
How about "Good Night, and Good Luck"? Awesome movie.
How 'bout "All the King's Men" (1949 version)? I haven't seen the recent remake.

I saw "Good Night, and Good Luck" on a plane ride down to Florida for a vacation in Key West... I think I need to rewatch it because with our excited mood (and I admit, a bit of drunkeness)it was the most boring movie in the world to see.
Did anyone see "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams??? We didn't like it much... first of all we thought it'd be a comedy (based on previews and such) but it SO wasn't. Also, it was just weird.
I do enjoy Mr Smith Goes to Washington, not going to lie.
I saw "Good Night, and Good Luck" on a plane ride down to Florida for ...
It's not a fast-moving film, but I'd say re-watch it. It's one of those fist-on-the-table, stand-up-for-your-rights movies. I love David Strathairn and George Clooney, too.
I saw "Man of the Year," and it was just a mess of a film.
And "Mr. Smith" is a classic. You can't feel bad for liking that one.
I haven't seen "Good Night, And Good Luck" yet, It's on my list of films to see.
Yeah, "Mr. Smith" is a great film.
It's old now, but "The Candidate" with Bob Redford was an insightful look at the dawn of modern campaigning.
