Ok, so I am new to Indy and would love to explore more of Indiana. Where are you favorite places to visit in-state and favorite things to do (especially outdoors)?
I gotta say that Brown County is my favorite part of the state. All of the lakes and forests are incredible. There's nothing better than putting the top down on the Jeep and driving down to Nashville or driving around IU's campus.
Shades State Park for the hiking, especially the Devil's Backbone trail; Pine Hills Nature Preserve, which is close to Shades, is great too.
I would echo Brown County, Nashville, and exploring Bloomington.
If you want to stay in town, you should check out Eagle Creek. It's the largest city park in the country at over 1000 acres.
Indiana Dunes is kind of cool. It's just unreal to come up on these huge sand dunes when your in the midwest.
These all sound awesome.
A couple of people had mentioned Nashville before but I didn't know it had so much to offer.
I like the park ideas too. I will have to research those mentioned further.
Eagle creek sounds amazing! I have a dog (of course you know that by the picture) and would love to go exploring there.
Dunes? Indiana has sand dunes?
"Dunes? Indiana has sand dunes?"
We do border on Lake Michigan; head to the Michigan City/Chesterton area and check out Indiana Dunes State Park and National Lakeshore. Here's a link to a DNR publication with a story on the dunes:
