I know that there are community clean ups going on all over town this weekend, and I'm going to do my best to help out, but I was hoping for some advice on how to clean green inside as well. We're moving in the next couple of weeks and I don't want to pollute the environment with bleach, pine-sol, windex and other harmful cleansers. I've read that vinegar is a pretty powerful natural cleanser, and I know that lemons will disinfect just about anything. Does anyone else have any suggestions for me?
Hello, here are a couple of suggestions that may help you. First of all, you are correct vinegar and water are great ways to clean and protect your family from harmful chemicals. I recommend just picking up a large spray bottle from your local hardware store and adding about a cup of vinegar to about 3 cups of water. It's not really an exact science but more of a trial and error as well as how strong you want the solution. Use this on practically all hard surfaces, even wood. As an abrasive cleanser you can try a little baking soda or a mixture of salt and lemon juice. Also, since there really isn't much of a government standard for "green" products I would recommend searching products certified by standards such as the "green seal". You can check out their website at www.greenseal.org.
Last but not least, read labels. Keep in mind that if a product doesn't list its ingredients it may not be as "eco-friendly" as it says.
Good Luck!!!
