Michael was infuriating when rejecting Darryl's commercial theme song on "The Office," yet I'm always happy when Michael is given a smidgen of credibility -- which arrived with his better-than-expected ad.
It's too bad the string of 60-minute episodes had to end.
My favorite line across the "Earl"-"30 Rock"-"Office" run: Tracy Morgan on "30 Rock" talking about the "227" movie he didn't make -- "New Jackee City."
The Office and 30 Rock are 1 and 1a with regard to best comedies on TV. I loved Jack Donaghy's line last week about his brother Tim, who "fixes basketball games." It was delivered so well you didn't have time to laugh at it.
And I loved Tracy's line to the counselor: "who's crazier, me or Ann Curry?"
That show is brilliant.
I love the Office. I never miss it. However, I have to say that the first few episodes of this season seem different. They're just not as funny and some stuff is downright depressing. I'm not giving up on the show. I'm just noticing that I'm not laughing out loud as much as I used to.
The Office is the kind of program that raises the bar for all the other shows, as well as anyone , in any media, trying to make people laugh.
I think The Office has gotten just a little more serious so far this season. I think it's growing as a show. I didn't find it depressing, but it's giving the characters more to do than just be deadpan and crack jokes. It's adding depth to the characters.
In a recent TV Guide "Cheers and Jeers" column, the writer was complaining that the current Pam/Jim storyline had "ruined the magic" and commenting that "no one wants to see them cuddling on the roof, eating pizza" or something to that effect. She wanted to see Karen's (however brief) return also bring a threat to the budding Pam/Jim relationship. But I'm actually enjoying the two of them as a couple. It hasn't changed my enjoyment of the show. And I have to say I find the Angela/Andy pairing too funny...
