We have pictures of pretty much the entire cast of "G.I. Joe," in all their glory.
My thoughts: Dennis Quaid looks a bit silly as General Hawk (ditto for Marlon Wayans as Ripcord), and taking Storm Shadow out of his normal ninja suit seems a touch of sacrilige given they put Snake Eyes in his full regalia (which you get a better look at here as well). The black armor-like gear everyone wears is a little generic, but as long as it's just battle gear, ala "The X-Men" I'm okay with it.
My biggest beef, though, is the omission of Flint and Lady Jaye, I believe from the film entirely. And we have yet to see Christopher Eccleston as Destro and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Cobra Commander, which I'm heartily looking forward to as well.
BTW, rumor has it that Brendan Fraser has a small role as Gung Ho, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson appears briefly as Shipwreck, which seems odd to me. You'd think if anything they'd swap those roles.
Anyway, Ain't It Cool News has taken their link down, but What Would Tyler Durden Do has your hookup for the moment.
Coincidentally, this comes on the same day I am wearing my own "G.I. Joe" t-shirt. Hey, that's just how I roll. Sorry if you're not down with it.
Thanks for posting those. This film has a lot to live up to for so many people and i think everyone's idea of what it should be varies to the point that its going to be hard to make this movie just right. I am ready for it to suck, but hopefully i wont be too disappointed. I really hope the Baroness has round glasses frames though....for me, that's such a great touch for her. I hate it that when Devil's Due crapped out their universe of Joe, they changed her frames (I had always hoped that Famke Jenssen would be cast as the Baroness). i know that's so minor and petty and geeky, but those are the kind of details i am talking about concerning the individual vision and hopes everyone, i think, has for this movie.
The fact that a Wayons brother is in it really put a bad taste in mouth. And Quaid does look a big turdish.
Oh well. We'll see.

I'm with you there. I'm also bracing for a crapfest, but I still hold out some hope. Yes, round glasses on The Baroness would be great. They seem to be shoehorning characters in (imdb is listing Arnold Vosloo as Zartan, which is good casting, but he was so menacing in the 'toon I almost wish they'd have saved him for the sequel).

Famke's great, no doubt. Bu I'll be fine w/Sienna.
just posted some baroness sketches in my photo section if you wanna check em out....
Why why why do directors feel the need to change comic/cartoon characters costumes? Thankfully the X-Men franchise was good enough to pull it off but what's the point in having all the GI Joe characters look the same? The costume is part of the character. Storm Shadow in a suit? Duke as a SWAT member?
What about Stalker, man??? We need the members of the LRRP (Long Range Recon Patrol) from 'NAM

I suppose the deal with some of them are the translations from cartoon/comic to live action. For instance, there was the "yellow spandex" joke in the first "X-Men" film. It makes sense to have them in some sort of combat gear, but there'd better be some more faithful costuming for most of them when when they're not blasting Cobra scum.
Haha. I'm sure Destro is going to be a bald guy in a black suit and Cobra Commander is going to be some sleazy guy with a snake pendant necklace dangling behind his unbuttoned designer shirt. Dumb.

I hear you, but back in 82 when GI JOE RAH lauched, all the characters were pretty much dressed the same. Except for Scarlet and Snake Eyes.... My vision would be to have the movie take place in the 80's like the timeline in the Marvel comic book. A lot of the characters were in NAM and i think that should always be part of their histories. A modern day Joe with Nam Vets would be a team of geriatrics...but i digress..i could go into a geek fueled rant about this all day long....must keep an open mind...

I think Destro is going to be chromedome, but they're pretty hush-hush about Cobra Commander. I don't know how with Gordon-Levitt in the role they go with either the hood or the face-shield thing.

I think that would probably be ideal for a lot of people of our generation who grew up with the cartoon and comics (though much moreso the former than latter for me personally).
Having said that, I wouldn't have a problem with treating that stuff as backstory and putting them in the first gulf war (though it wasn't known for its brutal hand-to-hand combat). But just to say they were maybe black-ops people would be okay.
My biggest thing is to see them recruitng across branches of the military as a sort of a supermilitary group, and keep sort of the spirit of the cartoon.
But I'm going to wig out if I see The Rock wearing Shipwreck's tight blue Village People shirt and little sailor hat.
I kinda dig the Storm Shadow outfit. Hopefully he will suit up in a ninja gi at some point. it would be kind of silly if he ran around in the gi the whole movie though...
i have rambled way too much about this...i have to go kiss my girlfriend now....

I can buy it if they pick up the yin/yang route with him and Snake Eyes (with Storm Shadow selling out as a mercenary type, while Snake Eyes stays a military man or whatever). Storm Shadow can be slicker and more polished, but Snake Eyes is no frills.
And there'd better be one kick ass fight between them too. I mean it better be freakin' epic.
Oh, I am sure there will be some sword wielding action...hopefully!
My problem is the likely premise of the change, that the costumes are corny, assumes that all the other stuff - Wolverine's claws, a secret evil army led by a dude with a silver head - is not. Play it straight or not at all, I say.

My point with respect to Joe in general is that their established costumes can still be there. A military man has several different uniforms generally speaking-the BDUs, a formal dress uniform, etc. In the field or in battle or whatever he would likely wear some form of armor. I mean even men in the Army wear baseball-style caps on a day-to-day basis, but in the field/in combat they're wearing helmets, right?
I agree with you in that I want to see some of those Joe costumes...I mean, if we get Duke running around in that crazy garb the whole movie, I'm gonna be as peeved as the next guy. But if he runs around in his regular uniform for a good portion of the movie, then slaps those Batman suit variants for the climax, I won't complain too much.
