This might be kind of a serious post for Indy.com but I was wondering if anyone knows about an organization locally (maybe a church?) that is taking food collections for Haiti. The article in yesterday's paper about food riots got me to wondering about that. It said that they are eating dirt cookies! Juxtapose that with the New York Post article I read yesterday where restaurant reservations are so hard to get that they have scalpers for the hot restaurants and the show on the Travel Channel last night about big food ,where people were treating overeating as an endurance sport, and it is despicable. I see the UN has the World Food Program where I can donate but I'd just like to send them some real cookies. Even if someone personally knows someone there who I can send food.

There is a "Walk With Haiti" walk-a-thon in Williams Park in Brownsburg this Saturday at 10am. There's already a post here on this site: http://www.indy.com/events/view/65715?enddate=2008-04-12&startdate=2008-04-06 It's $15 per individual and is sponsored by St. Malachy's.
