What's your favorite commercial product mascot of all time? Speedy Alka-Seltzer tops my list. The first dadaist poem I ever learned: "Plop plop fizz fizz oh what a relief it is...."
In a related vein, I read something about about how all cereal commercial characters are male: Tony the Tiger, Lucky the leprechaun, Sugar Bear, Toucan Sam...are there any female characters?
I always liked the Noid, I believe he was the mascot for Noble Romans Pizza. The slogan was "avoid the Noid" and he was this creepy little guy with big ears and a mask on, Somebody was trippin balls when they created that character.

The Noid was actually for Dominos, I remember he had a video game on NES "Yo! Noid" back in '90. He was a pretty stellar character.
I kinda dug the California Raisins, they had soul. The Snuggle bear was always a little errie to me...bears are vicious animals, not cuddly little laundry detergent users.

Here's another funny article where the author divides mascots into Pre-Noidal and Post-noidal, based on her observation that Post-Noidal mascots were creepier and less friendly than Pre-Noidal mascots. http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/popcandy/2003-03-12-candy.htm

I remember the Noid.. here's a video review of the Noid video game, Yo! Noid -- warning, lots of dirty words in this vid.
And Jolene, I think you're right, I can't think of any female cereal mascots.

Ha...it cracks me up that Jared is considered a "mascot."
I have always wanted to poke that little Pillsbury dough boy in his belly.
On the subject of Speedy, I was in Elkhart taking part in a union march when they were closing down the Alka-Seltzer plant there and moving it to Mexico. I wasn't part of the union, I just happened to be there. Anyway, we marched behind a truck with loudspeakers blasting the "plop plop, fizz fizz" jingle. It was rather surreal.
I like a lot of them, but since I was little I've always liked the Snuggle bear. So cute!
We still have a little stuffed Twinkie the Kid.
