I thought this was a place where those of us in the indy community could post random things or whats going on in our mind, or pics that show all the awesome things in each others lives. I like frogmajiks awesome photoshopped pics and old family photos. I like randydaytonas sophmoric humor. I do'nt care if somebody uploads 2000 pts worth of photos, damn they should get more points for that since it takes a week to upload that many. Who cares if the posts are short or boring. Don't read em, we all know who writes good articles and who doesn't by now. Ever since Karma came along though, we have a group of people that inevitably whine at the end of every month about this persons post or this guys having too many pics. wtf? Once again money (prizes) is the root of all evil and like cyndi lauper said, I see your true colors shining thru (exclude the thats why i love you part though).
I like you too DigitalEvolution. I agree with you, there has been a lot of whining. They should just get rid of the prizes.
Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You, Digital Evolution? You, Randy Daytona? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Laura99in and curse the Doberman; you have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know: that Laura99in's death, while tragic, probably saved lives and that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use then as the backbone of a life trying to defend something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you," and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest that you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Son, we live in a world that has walls and those walls need to be ...
lmao
Whiners will be whiners. (Secretly, you know want that gaming chair. Come on!)
Anyway, I am glad I finally got on the site. There are quite a few of the things you thought this site was for happening here. It isn't too negative and the random bloggers that swoop down from there anonymous perches at most of the local blogs don't drop by here too often. The majority of topics and comments are offbeat and enjoyable and put a personalized spin on the city I call home.
PS I want that Wii. Get ready for a barrage of photos. Mwuhahaha!
Unfortunately, most of the prizes so far have been things that I've already dropped my own money on, so I haven't been terribly desperate to win anything. But I do see the complainers' side of the issue. I thought the point of Karma was to generate repeat contributers, discussions, and participation in the community as a whole. Posting new topics, events, and restaurant reviews are all good examples of that.
Posting a bunch of random photos of family and pets, however, is not a good contribution in my opinion. Never have I thought to myself "I know...I think I'll dig in to some Indy.com profiles to see what pictures people have posted of their goldfish Roxy!" I think I would feel differently if there was a "random image" gallery somewhere, that was more publicly available and didn't require me to dig in to individual profiles...and if more of the photographs displayed talent or artistic merit, rather than just being point-and-shoot crap.
That being said...since they're not willing to fix an exploitable contest, I can't really blame people for exploiting it. And I'll probably exploit it myself if there's ever a prize that comes up that I'm really gunning for. I was on here nearly every day last month contributing to discussions, and only made it to 69 Karma points, so clearly that's the only way to make it happen.
Personally I was thrilled to see this site grow and become what it is. I love Indianapolis and all that it has to offer. When friends and family come to town I like to know what's going on around town so I can inform them, keep them entertained, and show off our great city in the best way possible. This website is fantastic for learning about food and fun and I thought I could even make a few new friends. Even though I keep getting ripped on I will stay. I was asked to stay by the indy.com staff, so if you don't like me, blame them. I'm not friends with any of them. Their job is to get people to come here, stay here, and keep coming back. It's how they keep advertisers dollars. It's how they get paid. I wouldn't want to chase anyone away from here, it's a great place to hang out. They did an excellent job and continue to do an excellent job. I wish everyone would quit focusing on each other and focus on the fun, the food, and all the good things there are to talk about. Is everyone still in their winter cranky mood or what?
Hey, I like to talk and I can do it here without driving my partner crazy. I enjoy reading the posts and commenting on whatever comes to mind. At least theres a place to do that. The only site as good is IndyMoms.com
Where's the Indy Dads site?
Here, here DE. I agree.
I don't use the IndyMoms.com site cause in my humble opinion it sucks, and well... Indy.com is a lot more fun... and intersting.
I personally enjoy the Doberman, Laura99in, RandyDaytona, and all others that add character (in their own unique way) to this site.
Complaining about complaining is still complaining.
Complaining about complaining is still complaining.
pointing out the obvious on indy.com is also seen as complaining, you complainer.
i have plenty to whine about as far as spending time creating posts i think will garner some real thread action, only to see them moved to the 2nd or 3rd page after a few hours of 'whats your favorite meaningless thing' or single posts by new users that never touch the site after that.
but do i whine about it? on here? no. thats what my cats are for; they just look at me and dont say anything. well, not anything worth complaining about.
You can win prizes?!! Damn that's rad, I'm not complaining about that, my only complaint is that I didn't know sooner, now I can spend more time with my interweb and less time at the claw machine. God bless America

There's a simple solution to stop people from starting hundreds of useless threads. Give points to people for REPLYING to threads rather than STARTING them. This way people will bump the threads that are relevant and won't have a reason to start hundreds of "What's your favorite color?" threads.

Hands down the most intelligent idea yet. TAKE NOTE INDY.COM STAFF!
Yes, I think it's a great idea to only give points for leaving comments!
