Has anyone seen this movie (which, oddly enough, isn't called "April Fool's Day: The Movie," but is actually and more succinctly named simply "April Fool's Day."
It was one of those mid-80s holiday-themed horror films based on the infamous "Silent Night, Deadly Night" (where Santa Claus was the slasher). In the film a series of murders occur on April 1. Of course, the whole time you're thinking "wouldn't it be funny if all of the murders were April Fool's jokes?" Then, of course...well, I won't spoil it, but suffice it to say given the title it's the worst-kept secret perhaps in the history of cinema.
There is actually a straight-to-video remake in the works (it may be out now) starring Scout Taylor-Compton, who played Laurie Strode in Rob Zombie's "Halloween."
The remake was released to DVD on March 25th. Here's a link to the trailer. It looks pretty bad, but bad horror movies can be fun to laugh at.

That begs the question: why not release it today and give it some press? Even if it's terrible, it seems like it could get some run by releasing it today, being Tuesday and all, the traditional home video release day.

Good question. Seems to be the obvious best way to do it. Perhaps it's to give people a few days to buy it before April Fool's? The original was released on March 28th, 1986.

Funny. I remember going to the drive-in to see it. It would have been summer of '86. I saw "A Nightmare on Elm Street" at that same drive-in in North Carolina. Great times.
