Looks like Jake Gyllenhaal is putting on the red-and-blue tights and taking over for Tobey Maguire in the soon to come Spider-Man sequel "Spider-Man Strikes Back," so reports joblo.com.
Allegedly "Strikes Back" will continue the Venom story and add in Lizard and/or Electro as the main villains.
This sounds like good news to me, as Gyllenhaal would make an excellent Spidey and Tobey Maguire has kind of moved on.
Also, even better news is that Kirsten Dunst likely won't return as Mary Jane either. Rumored to be playing Spidey's gal pal are Natalie Portman, Megan Fox (of "Transformers") or Maggie Gyllenhaal.

He would, and he was reportedly really close to taking over in Spider-Man 2 when Maguire injured his back making Seabiscuit (which of course is the impetus for the bit in SM2 when Peter tries to reclaim his powers, jumps off of a building and says "I'm back! I'm back!" only to fall on a car and limp away saying "My back! My back!").
I suspect that was the reason they chose him, along with the Maggie Gyllenhaal-as-MJ bit, which I LOVED. Hilarious.

Of course, Roger Ebert says that Donnie Darko is all about Donnie's sexual fixation on his sister. Of course, Donnie was played by Jake and the sister role was played by Maggie. So maybe there is something there.

Got me! It lived past April 1st :-) My fave movie with Jake was October Sky. He's a great guy and would make a neat-o Spidey.
