Paul Biss, a veteran of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music faculty, will retire from teaching this spring.

To help celebrate his career, he will conduct the IU Chamber Orchestra at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 2 in IU's Auer Hall on Jordan Ave. in Bloomington.

Biss, who has taught at IU since 1980, has been most visible as a conductor and violinist. He has led about 70 orchestra concerts and 13 operas in Bloomington. He is a former member of the Berkshire String Quartet.

An Illinois native with degrees from IU and the Juillard School, Biss is a member of a family of musicians. His wife is violinist Miriam Fried and his son, New York-based pianist Jonathan Biss.
