Today:
OK, folks...what was the first major concert that YOU paid to attend?
Since I can't count the Mac Davis concert at the State Fair that my parents dragged me to, I'll have to say my first big show was Styx at Roberts Stadium in Evansville. It was the Cornerstone tour...anyone remember making out to "Babe?"
The sad thing is I can't even remember the opening act, but I do remember the anticipation and sharing some laughs with my best friend as we hit the "big city."
the presidents of the united states of america....riveria in chicago in high school
DMB in 97 or 98... not sure. Wish it would have been sooner. I wasn't into good tunes until late in high school. Sublime would have been my first, but Bradly passed.
Hall & Oats at Market Square Arena (R.I.P.) in 82'
Elton John at MSA in 1980.
Bob Seger at MSA. I think it was my sophomore year in high school.
Paula Abdul Deer Creek....beat that hahahaha
this secret cannot leave the midwest... Amy Grant, Savage Hall, Toledo, OH.
May Day 2007 - Chevelle, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Chris Cornell. I was almost 22, late bloomer I guess.
In 1970, the first and only rock festival held at the old Victory Field (soon to become Bush Stadium). I'm told that Muddy Waters was supposed to be there, but all I remember is a jazz-rock Chicago-wannabe band named Rastus and an ear-splitting band named Atomic Rooster. The crowd tore up the infield (I remember sitting on the basepath to second base), and the Indianapolis Indians management balked at future concert presentations.
Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds in Bloomington, 1995.
The Righteous Brothers in Tulsa. Yes they are awesome but I was 8 years old and probably their youngest fan there by a good 40 years!
Toto at Kings Island in 1980...that was included with admission...does that count as "paid" concert?
J.Geils band in 1983 if that doesn't count...
I've made up for my sheltered "non concert" years and have been to hundreds since the mid 80's...LOVE LIVE MUSIC!!
Leif Garrett at the Indiana State Fair. I think I was 12. Leif was SO cool back then!! I was made for dancin'...ah, ah, ah, all night long...
ok I admit it was NKOTB, I was in grade school. However... I heard that they might be making a comeback at the Indiana State Fair this summer! for real!
I've been to so many concerts I can't remember which one I actually paid for. The first one I went to was with my mom, 3rd grade approximately, state fair grounds, Anne Murray and the Oak Ridge Boys. "Elvira, oompapa ommpapa moww moww" haha.
Some lady I baby sat for when I was 12 took me to see the Michael Jackson, Jackson reunion tour thing in like 1984? It was pretty cool, laser show stuff, probably the first of it's kind.
I saw NKOTB on a dare because I was a big time metal head and my boyfriend didn't think I would do it. I had to stay the whole concert. It was awful haha. I was 17 and everyone around me was 10 with their mom.
First one - Whitney Houston in 1988. During the "I wanna dance with somebody' era. I was 13 and it was pretty exciting. The same year I saw NKOTB (both at Market Square Arena). Grew up in a small town, so it was so exciting to drive to Indy to see these people. I cried at the NKOTB - it was so out of control screaming that I got swept up in the emotion. Ya, seriously.
First one i paid for was Judas Priest/Megadeth/Testament in '90 i believe...First concert ever was Everly Bros at the Grand Ole Opry sometime in the early 80s
How could I forget Summer Slammin Tour 87 in Charlotte, NC. Salt n Peppa as the headliners with Big Dady Kane, Heavy D and the Boyz and EU "Doing the Butt". I have tried many times to forget but oh well.
Two years later followed it up with Erasure in Orlando, FL. Scary combo if you ask me.
First one was Rage Against the Machine in '93 (I think).
I've got you all beat!! Boyz 2 Men II concert in Detroit MI!! Okay, I know I just lost cool points for that one, but it's pretty funny!! I sat in like the 5th row too!
The amazing local band (who are no longer together to my knowledge) Perfect Nothing at the emerson in 02'
Rod Stewart and the Faces fronted by Deep Purple in Milwaukee. "Smo-o-o-o-ke on the water ... " (bum bum bum ... bum bum bum-bum). What an ear-ringing experience that was for a concert rookie. Can't remember when it was for sure, but you might need a time-travel machine to get there.
One of those Bobby Brown/Keith Sweat/Guy tours that came through MSA in the late 80's. We went to so many of 'em during my college years that they all ran together.
