Top 10 Live is a collaborative effort between the Indy.com staff and Indianapolismusic.net

1. Jill Scott w/ Raheem DeVaughn

8 p.m. March 25, Murat Theatre, 502 N. New Jersey St., $52.99, (317) 239-5151.

Modern soul/R&B singer Jill Scott has moved from music into other art and entertainment fields in recent years. Along with her three studio albums, Scott has also published a book of her poetry, appeared onstage in a touring production of the musical "Rent," and acted in a variety of television and film roles. Her primary passion remains music, though. On Tuesday, Scott will perform songs from her latest album, "The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3," which came out September 2007.

2. Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks w/ John Vanderslice

7:30 p.m., March 22, The Vogue, 6259 N. College Ave., $18, (317) 259-7029.

Stephen Malkmus (left) served as the focal point of Pavement, the seminal "slacker rock" act, until that group went on indefinite hiatus in 1999. He jumped immediately into working with the Jicks, a band that serves partly as his backing act and partly as full collaborator. So far, the Jicks' output has shown the same variety as Pavement's. The latest album, "Real Emotional Trash," is a trip through dense, noisy psychedelic rock.

3. Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band

7:30 p.m. March 20, Conseco Fieldhouse, 125 S. Pennsylvania St., $57 to $91, (317) 239-5151.

Bruce Springsteen has nothing left to prove. With the help of his legendary backing group, The E Street Band, Springsteen has created a catalog of rock anthems and built a mythology around his days on the Jersey Shore. The combo has won him acclaim from critics and love from legions of fans. Nonetheless, he continues to create music that builds on his reputation. His latest record, 2007's "Magic," was named No. 2 album of the year by Rolling Stone magazine.

4. The Dirtbombs w/ Kelley Stoltz

8 p.m. March 21, Jake's, 419 N. Walnut St., Bloomington, $8, (812) 333-5253.

Detroit has a proud musical heritage that embraces the garage rock, punk and soul that have come from the city in the last 40 years. The Dirtbombs are proud natives of Detroit who roll all those sounds into a mix that emphasizes the big beat of the music. The group, noted for intense shows, returns from a tour of Australia and New Zealand to kick off its next U.S. tour in Bloomington.

5. Patty Larkin

7:30 p.m. March 23, Old Centrum, 1201 Central Ave., $15, (317) 637-4408.

Patty Larkin has won fans and critical acclaim with her folk songwriting and strong guitar playing. She shows off both talents on her recent album, "Watch the Sky." Larkin took full control of all elements of production on the album, including engineering and editing. She also pushed the boundaries of her musicianship by playing familiar instruments in unusual ways and adding hip-hop-inspired loops.

6. Bottoms Up Burlesque feat. Creepin' Charley and Atomic Bombay

9 p.m. March 22, Radio Radio, 1119 E. Prospect St., $8, (317) 955-0995.

Since 2004, Indy's Bottoms Up Burlesque troupe has been putting on an annual fall show. This year they add a spring show to their calendar. All proceeds from the event go to Y-ME, a breast-cancer support group. You can also enjoy music from Creepin' Charley and surf rock act Atomic Bombay.

7. Dyngus Day w/ Polkamotion

6 p.m. March 24, The Chatterbox, 435 Massachusetts Ave., free admission, (317) 636-0584.

Dyngus Day (Easter Monday in Poland) is celebrated in places like South Bend, Ind., and Buffalo, N.Y. The Chatterbox has served as ground zero for Dyngus Day revelers in Indy for years. Take in a Polish-inspired celebration including music by Polkamotion, dancers, and a menu featuring smoked kielbasa from the grill.

8. Carrie Newcomer w/ The Stellanovas

7 p.m. March 22, Eiteljorg Museum, 500 W. Washington St., $20, (317) 636-9378.

Hoosier-bred folk singer Carrie Newcomer teased her Indianapolis fans this past fall and winter with short performances at local meeting houses while preparing for the release of her new album, "The Geography of Light." Saturday's full concert at the Eiteljorg is her first visit following the CD's release. (Become a museum member and you can get into the show for free; call the Eiteljorg for details.)

9. Ryan Ahlwardt, Chad Mills, Jenn Cristy, and Ryan Brown

8:30 p.m. March 20, Birdy's, 2131 E. 71st St., $5, (317) 254-8971.

We admit that this list often overlooks the hard-working local performers, so we hope to make some amends by spotlighting a show that features four such acts. Chad Mills (pictured), Ryan Ahlwardt, Jenn Cristy and Ryan Brown can each fill a whole night with music on their own. This bill should be a special treat.

10. Pipebomb, the Slammies, Urinal Mints, Super Secret Sideshow

10:30 p.m. March 22, Melody Inn, 3826 N. Illinois St., $7, (317) 923-4707.

With over a decade of putting together weekly shows, it's tough to overlook the crew that produces Punk Rock Night at the Melody Inn every Saturday. Local acts Pipebomb and the Slammies, along with one of PRN's favorite out-of-town acts, the Urinal Mints, are featured this week.
