Looks like Peter Berg, who has done nothing lately but direct hella-good movies, will be the latest to take on the screwy "Dune" saga.
Variety has the full story.
Berg directed the dumb-but-fun action vehicle for The Rock called "The Rundown," and followed it up with two killer flicks, the high school football drama "Friday Night Lights" (he is exec producer of the TV series as well) and "The Kingdom," the CSI-meets-the-Middle-East action/drama starring Jamie Foxx.
His next film will be the angry superhero picture "Hancock" starring Will Smith, slated for a 4th of July weekend opening.
I'm not sure what I think of his latest project. "Dune" has been done to death it seems like, between David Lynch's totally wacked-out version from the 80s to the Sci-Fi channel doing both "Dune" and a couple of sequel novels.
The guy seems to know what he's doing, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. But he also starred in "Shocker," so don't give him too much rope.
Nothing will ever beat Sting in that blue metal mankini...
I've never understood what makes someone think something like Dune needs to be remade in the first place. The original Lynch was darn near perfect for what it was.
I thought the sci-fi channel versions were fairly attrocious :)
I just remember the warts on that dude who was in "Cat's Eye." I was about 8 years old when I saw that movie in the theaters, and there was so much buzz about it, and I was so excited. It went WAY over my head.
I did an imdb.com check to find out The Baron's name was Kenneth McMillan. He died in 1989 of liver failure. He was in "Cat's Eye," which was based on Stephen King stories. Good movie to check out. It also stars a young post-"ET" Drew Barrymore.
