Opera's next season to feature two German works

Indianapolis Opera on Friday night announced the company's 2008-09 season, before the opening production of "Tosca" at Clowes Hall.

Opera executive director John Pickett said that the next season will feature two German works.

The 2008-09 season will open with Verdi's "Il Trovatore" on Oct. 3 and 5, sung in Italian.

"Hansel and Gretel" will be sung in German on Nov. 21 and 23, followed by Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance," March 13 and 15 in English, and a semi-staged, concert version of Richard Wagner's "Das Rheingold," May 15 and 17,in German. The Wagner production will be a collaboration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

All of Indy Opera's 2008-09 productions will be at Clowes.
