Through his efforts in the labor movement, United Farmworkers Union founder César Chavez became a significant civil-rights leader.

The Indiana State Museum invites poets to celebrate César Chavez Day from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, March 28, by presenting poems dealing with the themes of overcoming injustice and working for social justice. The presentation can be bilingual. For information, or to participate, call Ricardo Parra at 317-920-9664 or 317-730-3330.

From Ricardo: This new festival celebrates the life, work, and legacy of César Chavez. Students will explore his impact on the labor movement and migrant farming in Indiana and discover how his actions brought about changes in agriculture and sociocultural diversity.

The Indiana State Museum is located at 650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis , IN 46204.
