Daylight Savings Time Rant

I'm still baffled over the Daylight Savings Time debate here in Indiana (Yes, it is Savings - at least that's how I've known it my entire life). This is something that the rest of the states do and it keeps us in sync with time with everyone else. I know, Mom always taught me that I shouldn't do something just because everyone else did, but in this case, it really makes sense for business purposes and such.

I grew up in Michigan and setting the clocks was just something that you did twice a year there was no debate over it. I think people just need to get used to it.

I also think though that we shouldn't be able to mess with the date of it though. It was ridiculous how dark it was this morning. Then, come to find out all the money that was going to be saved by this was a farce anyways. Absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible of the government!! It's amazing the things that Congress will require months and months of data and studying and then other things that they hardly have any info on, but will act nonetheless.

Here's an interesting little clip that was on a national Sunday morning program......(sorry there's a commercial attached to it).

I'm not a fan of DST…I understand the pro/con arguments, and I see both the benefits and the drawbacks of both.

My problem with DST is actually kind of selfish and it has to do primarily with my extensive collection of sun dials. Twice a year I have to go out back and rotate them 8 degrees in order for them to be accurate.

It really is quite a hassle.

Having grown up in Indiana, I have the benefit of seeing how completely illogical this is. An arbitrary decision to create and destroy time? Seriously? What next, a law making gravity illegal? Maybe the legislature should also outlaw death. Slap some cuffs on the Grim Reaper and toss him in the pokey. We were the one bastion of chronological sanity, but we've given that up in the noble cause of peer pressure. Everyone else is doing it, so we should too.

Please, DST is a waste of time, the economic gains are not all that great. The energy consumption is more, and we lose an hour of daylight in the spring right when it starts to get light. Talk about depressing and after a cold long winter, please the more light and more good weather the better. IMO i think we should have left it the way it was.
