Thie restaurant is not on Indy.com yet. I went in to El Puerto, as the sign reads, on Lafayette Road last weekend with my brother and his wife. We were just looking to try a different Mexican restaurant than the ones we enjoy regularly. We were greeted promptly and sat at a clean, though well used table. Our server was quick about greeting us and taking our drink orders, she also inquired a couple of times if we would like to place our orders or if we needed more time, which we did. The menu is very different from what I call a standard mexican menu, as this is a mexican seafood restaurant.
I ordered the Molcajetes San Blas, a seafood plate containing mussels, clams, shrimp, crab, calamari, fish and more shrimp. I initially balked at the $22 price, but once I received the stone bowl sizzling and mounded with the seafood mixture, I thought I had a great deal on my hands and in my stomach. The seafood had a light spice that was pleasant, but allowed the taste of the seafood through. There was enough for two people, so with an appetizer and a couple of plates, this dish would do well for sharing a meal with a friend. Don't touch the bowl though. After half an hour, the bowl was still uncomfortable to touch and I've had my hands in pizza ovens grabbing pans because someone dropped the pan gripper. Honestly, I love seafood and this place will now be on my list of places for better seafood.
Thanks for pointing this joint out. We'll get it in they system. (If anyone ever finds a venue out there that we don't know about, hit the 'submit venue' link at the top in the orange navigation bar and let us know about it. We want 'em all!)
