When the hills of Los Angeles are burning Palm trees are candles in the MURDER wind So many lives are on the breeze Even the stars are ill at ease And Los Angeles is burning
This is not a test of the emergency broadcast system When Malibu fires and radio towers Conspire to dance again And I cannot believe the Media Mecca They're only trying to peddle reality Catch it on Prime Time Story at nine The whole world is going insane
I don't know how many Bad Religion fans there are out there. And even if you're not, you may have caught some of this on the news. Yes, SoCal is burning. Everywhere. Soot is raining down and the skies are a shade of gray that isn't your typical smog.
Certainly, California is prone to wildfires. Droughts are common, so water consumption is top of mind. I grew up turning the water off while brushing my teeth and turning the shower pressure down to a trickle as I lathered up in the shower. That isn't the case here. We let the water run and don't think twice about our natural resources or how to better conserve them.
Yes, California is thousands of miles away, but what we do here affects the whole globe. We're simply not caring for our resources, our environment, our life sources as we should be, because we don't think we need to. We haven't had rolling blackouts (well, there were a couple this summer) or water shortages or anything like that. What do we care, right?
Well, China and India are burning up fossil fuels and f'ing with the environment just as much, if not more than we are, but we're hoping that they bring that into check to preserve the health of the whole world. So why would Indiana be immune? If we want foreign countries to get in line, then why don't WE recycle and conserve water and adopt healthier, greener habits?
I just don't get it and it drives me nuts. I suppose I really AM a hippy granola girl underneath it all.
