Zack and Miri Make a Porno-a picture

Okay, ya pervs, don't get too excited. There's no nudity here, at least that you can see in the picture. This is instead indie geek auteur Kevin Smith's latest flick, which takes place outside of his View Askewinverse (Jay and Silent Bob's domain).

"Zack and Miri" is about two longtime platonic friends (played by Seth Rogen of "Knocked Up" and Elizabeth Banks of "The 40 Year Old Virgin" and the recent "Definitely, Maybe"), who decide to make an adult film in hopes it will become an internet sensation, with sales helping to get them out of debt.

I personally am glad to see Smith get out of his Askewinverse, although the previous results have been less than stellar (see "Jersey Girl," or better yet, don't see it. You're not missing much).

But it'll be interesting to see how Rogen and Banks, two of Hollywood's rising stars, handle Smith's notoriously great dialog matched with his notoriously poor visual skills and shaky-at-best plots.

I am stoked about this film, being a huge fan of Rogens' and drool over the adorable/sexy Banks.......if you check out www.myboringasslife.com you can read about how Seth and Elizabeth were cast, I am at work and they filter out the "entertainment" sites soI can't post a link, maybe tonight if I remember.

Anyway very excited about this.

Joe, "Jersey Girl," or better yet, don't see it. You're not missing much" Come on, that's a little harsh JG had a heart and gulp some fine acting by Mr. Affleck (especially when he finds out his wife died) sure it wasn't your typical "di*k & fart jokes" that Smith has given us in the past, but it was a good film.

I would point you to the last line of my post regarding the quality of "Jersey Girl." I'll give you it had heart and Smith's usual great dialog, but I gotta be honest, the guy can't find his way between sappy and touching with two hands and a flashlight, as a wise man once said. His writing feels like writing too much and isn't natural or real enough.

I love Kevin Smith (and I recommend for ANYONE to check out his two "An Evening with Kevin Smith" DVDs-I never thought a collection of lecture-circuit tourstops could be so interesting), but the movie was at best forgettable. And JG was when everyone started coming down on Affleck for overacting (though part of it was Smith's fault).

I like Affleck too, BTW. The little girl was cute, as was Liv Tyler. But the movie as a whole? Not so much.

I've seen the first "An Evening with Kevin Smith" but not the 2nd one yet.

The second is more of the same. He follows up on some of the stuff from the first one (remember the thing with him going to Prince's house and "making a documentary"? Turns out it became some kind of Jehovah's Witness recruitment video or something). The second one is called "Evening Harder: An Evening With Kevin Smith 2."

I'm sure you know having seen the first one, but for other readers, I'd caution that it's a bit on the explicit side language wise. If you've seen his movies, you know more or less what to expect, because he doesn't hold back. And he has LOTS of good stories.

That reminds me: I interviewed the guys who played Dante and Randal from "Clerks" when "Clerks II" came out. The guy who played Randal said the someone once yelled to him (as he was leaving a hotel or something)"try not to suck any d*cks on the way out to the parking lot!" That of course references the first "Clerks" movie.

An aside to that story: I was to meet them in person (they were in town for the movie's promo tour), but I was really sick and had to cancel, but they were nice enough to do the interview for me over the phone. I was VERY appreciative of that.

Great story! Yes, I am familiar with his language and not holding back, the man has a gift for telling stories, you never get bored with them. Will have to get Part 2 from Netflix.

I love reading his stuff....BTW, this is neither here nor there, but lately we've been spending a lot of time discussing who would play us in respective movies of our lives (or, I guess, a movie about any of our lives). I had been thinking Kevin James (of "The King of Queens") to play me, but she looked at Seth Rogen last night and said "Dude would play you in a movie."

Take that for whatever it's worth.

Interesting, I would think John Goodman for myself, I'm large, but not that large though lol.....would rather have Seth play me though, he just rules.

Yes, I took that as a compliment...in a way. I think John Goodman at this point would be a little old for me. He could maybe play the older me.
