"Funny Games," directed by Michael Haneke. It's just a bizarre film that I caught on IFC during a particularly nasty bout of insomnia a few years ago.

The remake is being done as well by Haneke, and what I'm hearing about it, it's going to be exactly the same as the original, only with more mainstream stars (Michael Pitt, Naomi Watts, Tim Roth).

It's not really all that gory, but it's just a sadistic film. It's about a family of three in a somewhat secluded vacation spot. A couple of young neighbors ring the doorbell and ask to borrow some eggs. Soon they weasel their way into the house and next thing you know they're tying up the family and doing mean things to them.

I suppose the film could be slapped with that dubious moniker "torture porn," because in a lot of ways that's what the film is. But there's more to it than that. There is actually one moment where the film loops back on itself (I don't want to spoil it), but I found it to be a cheap moment and the film became something else entirely at that point.

I'd be interested in hearing from other people who've seen the movie what they thought of it.

I wouldn't call it one of my favorite films, but it's got conversation value.
