Do you do something icky for a living? Does your cousin Al drive a garbage truck? Aunt Lisa wallow in pig slop? We're looking for the most messy, gross, ew-inspiring things that you do to bring home the dough.
Your idea may be featured in an upcoming Adventure Story and video with ME trying it out.
C'mon. Let's get dirty.
I always thought that Dirty Jobs should have a female host! :) Sounds fun. Unfortunately (at least for this post's purposes) I work in a cubicle like most Indy.com Posters!
Years ago, I worked at Movies 8 on the east side of Indy as an usher. You would'nt believe some of the stuff we would have to clean up after a movie let out. Real hazmat suit material sometimes.
i've been working on an apartment remodel at a place that has been abandoned for at least a decade, during it's down time it was a drug den and a place where hookers took their clients, it's quite a charming abode.
I'm unemployed...kind of :-(
I also DJ'd this bar in Plainfield where I watched a chick od on coke and then she was allegedly raped. Nothing like seeing a girl passed out on a bathroom floor with a bloody nose! Ahh bars, you hang out in em long enough!

Holy crap! Those jobs can be the worse. I know a guy who had a neighbor who died and they didn't find him until 2 frickin' months later. I don't think they were able to re-rent that particular apartment that whole time that my friend lived across the hall. My friend said people were there every day just trying to get rid of the stench alone.
A friend of mine at work did this house where he had to get in the crawlspace, he said it was full of used needles. Yummy. I worked for the phone company a few years ago and my area was the Walnut area (aka the hood) around 38th and meridian. I saw wallpaper move because there were so many roaches behind it. thats hot!
I used to work for a car wash. It doesn't sound that bad but some of the stuff that had to be swept and cleaned out of peoples cars was ridiculous.
Pet hair covering all of the seats (you thought the seats were black until you vacuumed them and miraculously they were then white)
Cigarette ashes (not just out of the tray....but all over the inside of the car, with a few cigarette butts in the back seat from when the back window was open and when they tried to throw it out their drivers side window it just flew into the back seat and they didn't realize it...SMART!)
Nasty trash that had been thrown around the car for a year (that had been trampled over, rained on, muddied up, puked on, etc. etc.)
Every soccer mom van had at least 5 french fries somewhere throughout the car.
Weird one - One car had pennies in the trunk. Not just a few, but like 500 or more ... no idea how they got there...but they didn't want them and wanted me to suck them out with the vacuum.
BUT DEFINITELY THE NASTIEST...has to be-- Once a month we were told to clean out the car wash pit (which is underneath the cars as they go through and get sprayed and brushed). This means dig out all the grime, slime, and residue that has accumulated in the last month from washing all the cars. We had to shovel it all out and put it in wheel barrels and take it over to a dumpster. HEAVY, SMELLY, BROWN, NASTY soot. (smelled like sewage)

Yeah, that's pretty gross.

I worked in the service department of a car lot for 4 1/2 years, and some of the cars that would come in would be the nastiest, gnarliest, funkiest things. There were times that I refused to get into a car because it was so bad.
It's not quite gross, but one older lady had a car with newspapers piled all throughout it. Just stacks and stacks of newspapers.
I'll second Only (or may I call you The? :) in ashes all over the car...in the floors, seats, etc., and just grime caked on the dashboard. I mean you-could-write-your-name-in-the-gunk grime. Nothing like sitting in someone else's funk for awhile.
When I was attending a small college I had a work-study job as dispatcher for the security department. Pretty sweet -- you sat alone in an office with eight nearly uninterrupted hours of study time.
Then they decided they couldn't trust students with security, so we all got the boot quite suddenly in the middle of the school year. The only job they had left for me was dishwasher at the vegetarian dining hall.
To this day, I cannot stand the sight or smell of tofu. Not when you've had it cold, wet and sticking to your skin...
I did a survey in the sewers underneath Tech for a month. That was some nasty s---! Rats the size of a Carmel house wives dog. 3 inches of sludge on the walls. Cobb webs so dense you had 3 foot visibility. Real gnarly!
Though I think working at a sperm bank would be pretty rancid.
I cleaned out horse stalls in high school at a few different stables. It's more labor intensive then anything. The smell wasn't that bad, I guess riding horses for years made me used to it. I'd much rather be in a horse stall, then an ex drug/hooker hang out, or a sewer!
Thanks so much for your ideas (or, your experiences, I should say). Keep 'em coming! And again, it doesn't necessarily have to be things you've had personal...encounters with. Anything gross will do.

I think we have a winner!

A female host might work, but Mike Rowe is one of the most hilarious deadpan commentators that I've ever seen. Plus he does a grand job narrating "Deadliest Catch."
Two grossest jobs I had were being a trash man at a large city park on summer in Evansville and having to dump 55 gallon drums of god know what after sitting in the hot sun all weekend. The smell still haunts me!
Another bad job was working for a school coporation and having to snake out all the sewer and kitchen pipes. Talk about some foul smells!
