Caught this week's SNL Saturday for the first time in months...possibly years... and I was pleasantly surprised. Didn't recognize ANY of the comedians but the sketches weren't as puke-in-my-mouth horrible as I remember the last episode I viewed of-a-Saturday-night being. Plus [insert happy dance here] Wilco was the musical guest and, despite the horrid mix job, it was lovely. Vampire Weekend is next week's guest so it looks like I'll be tuning in again.

Anyone else out there watch anything but the reruns anymore?

Yeah, I watch it all the time. Just missed it these last couple times. Andy Samberg and Will Forte are awesome.

As a long time lover of SNL I have to say the last 2 epeisodes have been terrible, and I even liked the 80's cast with Brad Hall and Anthony Michael Hall. Maybe it's just because of the writers strike and they are not back up to speed, but it is getting harder and harder to support this show.

Glad Amy, Kristin, Andy, Will and Bill are doing movies now.

I have the last few downloaded, just can't motivate myself to watch them when there's better stuff out there. I don't think the show is bad...it's just lacking in break-out stars right now.

They're still putting out good stuff. Their viral stuff has been great: "Dick in a Box," the Natalie Portman rap video, and "Lazy Sunday" were all hysterically funny.

SNL has never been all that watchable because the show is just so long and there's so much that falls completely flat just because it's impossible to write that much that is just brilliant.

Really I think people get nostalgic for some of their favorite performers forgetting how much was really bad (or they watch the "Best of" and start thinking it was ALL great back in the old days, when there was just as much that was bad as good). Really in terms of quality it's probably been pretty much even over the years (with the exception of that one point in the 80s when Eddie Murphy wasn't there).

I stopped watching a couple years ago. There's generally only one funny sketch per episode, and I can just catch that on YouTube the next day.

Here's a little complaint: "dick" isn't caught by the cussword filter, but "douch-ebag" (one of my favorite borderline swearwords/insults) is? What do the indy.com gods have against personal hygiene?

Dick can be a first name though.

Great point, you usually don't remember the bad stuff.

This is the funniest fake commercial SNL has aired in years.

Kristen Wiig is funny.

Used to be a big fan, and I still try it once in awhile but I'm always disappointed. I haven't loved it since days of Fallon/Kattan/Sanz. I mostly tune in now to see what musical guest is on. I just don't like the cast right now. SNL has been on the ropes a couple of times before but maybe now is the time to end it all. Yet, with each cast, a new following seems to develop.

I thought Annuale was funnier on the same episode (Tina Fey rocks), but I did like that one too.

I do think it's kind of funny how the women used to be almost afterthoughts or space fillers in the skits (Jan Hooks, anyone?), and the stars all men, but nowadays you have Kristen Wiig and Amy Poehler, who are arguably the two funniest cast members on the show.

I'll agree with Joe that Wiig and Poehler are highlights.

Otherwise, this cast ranks down there with the Chris Elliott-Janeane Garafolo season.

I like the cast. But the writing (maybe head writer Seth Myers is to blame) is often sub-sub-SUB-par.

Jason Sedakis is funny. Bill Hader can be very funny ("I drink your milkshake!! I drink it up!"). Fred Armisen = FUNNY. Shoot, all of them -- Keenan, Samberg, Maya -- are good performers. But the material is weak.

This is another good one from last season Iran So Far

Agreed, Seth Meyers is an idiot. I don't know why he's the head writer.

The only thing Seth does now is Weekend Update. Keenan needs to go, he is awful....maybe it's time to clean house and start fresh, let Amy and Kristen go and make movies, they are better than the skits.....not that I want them to go mind you, but if it will help the show and get new cast members I am all for it.

Let Bill, Will, Jason & Fred do more, they do have a new female cast member (Can't remember her name right now) and she has shown potential, also Maya is no longer credited, she's 10x's funnier than Keenan.

I think Hammond will retire from that show lol, he has been on there the longest, Our generations' Rich Little, love that guy.
