Did anyone watch the premier of Quarterlife on Fox last week? It came on after American Idol on Tuesday.
Well, it's cancelled now. After one episode it's cancelled. I actually liked it to! It was supposed to start airing on Sunday's, so yesterday I was trying to find out what time it was going to be on.... I couldn't find it so I finally googled it...and it said it is done.
But here's the thing.. they are going to continue the show on Bravo, and replacing it on Fox with reruns of Law and Order.
So I went to the website at quarterlife.com and saw that it has all the episodes on it... so I ended up watching 13 (10 minute) episodes.
If you haven't heard of Quarterlife (the show) it's about a 2o-something girl who blogs about her life on Quarterlife.com. If you go the the actual website it really is an online community that I didn't know about before the show. It's video bloggers talking about anything and everything.
As much as I wish the show was still airing on Fox on Sunday night, I think they did the right thing in cancelling it... it brought publicity to the website and now I think I'm going to register (just need to get a video camera to blog with)...
Who watched the show, who liked it, who didn't like it, who registered for Quarterlife.com, what are everyone's thoughts?!!
They started this show a long time ago as a backlash of the monopolized and corporate studios. In the midst of the writers' strike it was a perfect outlet for creative film and helped people get their TV fix. It seemed quality. I was excited that it was making it on air! I even DVR'd it to watch future episodes. But because my dvr for American Idol ran 10 min into it, it didn't record! bummer!
What I saw a preview for this I wanted to see it too!!!
I watched the first episode and was really on the fence about it. I didn't necessarily hate it, but I felt like it had been done before. Every conversation they have is this deep, philosophical discussion. Every word was carefully placed to the point that it sounded obviously scripted. It felt very Dawson's Creek-ish. My biggest complaint is that most of the girls "problems" are things that you should be over by the time you're 25 years old. I'm 26 right now and NOTHING in my life is that melodramatic.
(me being a smarta$$) How about quarterlife on NBC? Did it get cancelled too? Haha.
Ron, I think your DVR didnt DRV it b/c it wasn't on after Idol, and if "a long time ago" is November, then yes, this show started a long time ago.
(back to regular Brian) Quarterlife didn't get any help from the powers at be...following Biggest Loser (now that's just ironic) and followed by Medium, come on. You've got a better shot at getting the Amish to tune in to Modern Marvels than 18-35 year olds flipping (and staying) on NBC during that time slot.
Here's a hint to NBC...this wasn't a failure, it was a great opp to inform those not in the know about a great webshow, but they should've used it as promo, and drove web traffic...in other words "one week only to check out what people watch on the web, and from here on out we won't show this on TV, but rather online" Had the 35+ audience even tuned in, they would be asking their 26 yr old neighbor Brian what a Blog is, so it really helps us all out.
Check out their site traffic...failure? No. (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/quarterlife.com?site0=quarterlife.com&y=r&z=3&h=300&w=610&range=6m&size=Medium)
Also, big ups to Toyota for getting their Prius and Scion brand integrated into the show...EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT IT!........not. Yes, that was a "not-joke".
hey Smarta$$...thanks for calling me out on that. I got confused :) Here's what happened... so I finished watching American Idol, turned it to NBC to watch the rest of Biggest Loser, and then watched Quarterlife after it. (forgetting that I changed the channel)
MSNBC article
Cancelled already, eh? And everyone was making a big deal about how this was the first TV show to sort of be born on Myspace and how shows started on sites like Myspace were the wave of the future.

I didn't hear anything about this show until after it already aired. Once I read up on it, I had no real desire to watch it. Not a big fan of MySpace anyway.
We watched and were on the fence, but our son loved it.
