I chose to leave NYC after 9/11 and move back home to Indiana. As a theatre
professional that was a huge decision. I miss a lot of things. My friends, the
shows, the professional oppertunities and great
Chinese food delivered to my door. Well, FINALLY Indy has the answer for the
Chinese food!! If you’re a Westsider get ready
to make some notes. The New Kings Wok (Oriental Express) (unsure what the parenthetical
is about) is here! I guess they have been around for a few months but I had
basically given up on the strip mall Chinese. But, these guys in big yellow
vinyl letters say “We Deliver”. So I thought I would give it a
shot. And I was moved to the point of wanting to post. I thought I was back in
NY. The Moo Shu was virtually perfect traditional
mushroom instead of “wood ear” style but I would think wood ear is
harder to find in Indy. They use
the REAL pancakes not TORTILLAS as others do in Indy and complete it with REAL Hoisen sauce. The Crab Rangoon could be the best I have had
in town with the sweet/savory filling seeping out of the overfilled seams of
the little, golden fried, heart-clogging stars of goodness. Those are severed
also with the right pineapple based sweet & sour sauce. The General Tso both Chicken and Shrimp is not soggy and served over
the traditional crispy steamed broccoli …. again sauce is
perfect. Shrimp with Lobster Sauce is light and the shrimp are huge. Moo Goo Gai Pan
(sounds like Chinese baby food… one of my favorite lines from the old Bob
Newhart show) delicious, light with big pieces of white chicken. If you are in the area the deliver times
vary but the estimates are right on the money and the food arrives hotity hot hot. We thought we were difficult to find
since Pappa Johns can NEVER find our place but these
guys have never had a problem….hmmm

I'd love to find more Chinese places that deliver...say, in the Broad Ripple area. Moo Goo goo-goo -- I remember that line too.
