Three Indiana music organizations are collaborating on a new Web-based social networking and performance project designed to help discover and showcase young musical talent.
Finding the Groove was created by Leslie Stifelman, a New York-based theatrical music director. The project is based on "The Music in Me,"an HBO television series Stifelman started in 2006.
The pilot program for Finding the Groove is being launched in Indiana in collaboration with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the Indianapolis-based arts education group Music for All.
Organizers are encouraging Indiana instrumentalists or vocalists, who are ages 7 to 12 and work in any musical style, to upload videos at www.findingthegroove.com, starting March 17.
Stifelman said that a handful of performers who submit videos online will be chosen to take part in a concert series.
The first live performance, presented by the IU School of Music, will take place Sept. 13 at the Musical Arts Center, 101 S. Jordan Ave., in Bloomington.
The ISO will present concerts at 1:30 and 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at Hilbert Circle Theatre, 45 Monument Circle, as part of the orchestra's Family Series.
Stifelman said she will conduct both concerts, which will be multimedia events, including video commentary from the performers.
