More of a regional thing...not Indy related, but there seem to be a lot of Cubs fans in town, so I'm curious what kind of responses I get.
So, the Cubs are thinking of renaming their beloved Wrigley Field...Everyone seems outraged that they would put a corporate name on the baseball oasis...am I the only one that realizes that it was probably the first stadium with a corporate name?
WRIGLEY FIELD...thats right..Wrigley is a company...Double-Mint anyone? Stop crying and play ball.
Well, not actually. It was called Cubs Park, then renamed Wrigley Field sometime in the 1920s when the Wrigley family bought the team. It was named in honor of William Wrigley, though how you separate the man from the company I don't know.
What I wonder is, which naming sponsor would risk the wrath of Cubs fans who in all likelihood would insist on calling it "Wrigley"? And wouldn't it be a hoot if a rival brand did buy the naming rights.
