Looking for a diverse crowd? Want to meet your partner for an after-work drink? Maybe you're single and hoping to meet someone new. Here's a look at some of the local gay-friendly bars:
This is a favorite hangout for gays, lesbians and the undecided. Renovated in 2002, Talbott Street's Copper Bar is a dance spot with DJs offering nightly music. A full range of well drinks are served along with wine, bottled and draft beer. Special events include the "Ladies of Legend" female interpreters on stage Saturdays and Sundays.

Known for its male dancers -- 15 to 25 perform seven nights a week -- the Unicorn offers daily drink specials. Shows are at 10:30 p.m. weekdays and 9.p.m. Sundays. The club is by membership; guest patrons are admitted for a $5 cover Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday; and $2 cover, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Recently renovated after fire damage, the 501 features upstairs and downstairs bars with pool tables and a full range of drinks. Rock-'n'-roll music entertains patrons along with monthly special events. A $3 cover is charged for special events, with a $2 cover at midnight Fridays and 10.p.m. Saturdays.

The Varsity includes an arcade, billiards, darts a jukebox and a full-service grill. It offers a cross of rock and country music and mixed drinks, wine, and bottle and draft beer. A Bloody Mary brunch is served the first Saturday of the month.

A Mass Ave. favorite, Metro serves up a full menu including breaded tenderloins, patty melts and the signature Metro club, along with monthly drink specials. Billiards, darts and karaoke are available along with TVs.
