My laziness showed as I had my friend Lisa pick me up from work and drive us all of three blocks to Andrus O'Reilly's.

This sports bar (and lunch spot for some) is cool for catching a rousing golf match, the latest ballroom dancing competition or the football game ..... if you're into that sort of thing.

The mood

The subdued details of O'Reilly's were easily visible as we visited in the middle of the day, with only a handful of other lunchers.

Dark hardwood flooring matches the depth of colors in the bar and other furniture.

Up a few stairs, a small bar area is open to the sunken "comfy zone" below, where overstuffed leather couches and coffee tables present a pleasant view of the many flat-screen televisions.

Braided black leather covers the chair seats, complementing the rich wood of the tables.

Lisa and I enjoyed people-watching through the wall of windows facing Pennsylvania Street.

The food

For a place with such an obvious overseas moniker, the food is not so much. (I discovered that Andrus O'Reilly is composed of the last names of the restaurant's two founders.)

Amid dishes named for family members and friends are regular appetizers of Buffalo chicken fingers, quesadillas and mozzarella sticks.

The fried mushrooms and Aunt Trinky's spicy cheese dip (sausage and cheese dip with tortilla chips) are the most out-of-the-ordinary.

On the main stage, salads, sandwiches, wraps and burgers complete the show.

My stomach was torn between the fajita chicken wrap and the raspberry spinach salad. Then the Turner burger caught my eye. It's just a cheeseburger named after a family friend who, of course, loves cheeseburgers.

In the end, I switched courses and went with the turkey sandwich ($9.45).

According to the menu: "Be prepared to take a nap after this tryptophan-stuffed sandwich!" which boasts six ounces of the bird.

I ordered it up on wheat (which miraculously looked exactly like white bread), with a healthy slab of Swiss. Tomatoes and mayo were also squashed between the slices of buttery grilled bread.

Obviously, I have no idea what six ounces of turkey looks like, because all I saw were two or three slices on my sandwich.

But there were no complaints; it was crunchy, gooey yumminess. The sandwich and my side of onion rings more than filled me up.

Lisa's chicken cordon bleu wrap was stuffed with meat (slices of grilled chicken and ham), provolone, bacon and lettuce, and was served with a side of honey mustard ($7.95) and fries.

The drinks

Very frequently refilled Diet Coke and an iced tea ($1.95 each).

The damage: $23

Surrounding yourself with good friends and good brews would make the good in Andrus O'Reilly's even better. Decent food, sweet decor, plentiful pleasantries -- I enjoyed it.
