Because I am new to Indianapolis, I don't have many friends in the area and don't know many places to hang out. The problem is... my weekends are Wednesday and Thursdays. What is there to do on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I plan to go in the spring to the canal and have a picnic... but other than that, I don't know what else to do. Any ideas, any deals?

See you there!

Sweetypie, what sort of stuff are you interested in? Your tags are a bit limited. Not much on nightlife here, but if your interests include theatre I could lend you a hand. Welcome to Indy. Ty
Wednesday are ladies night at Crackers comedy club in Broad Ripple. Ladies get in free, but you have to buy at least 2 menu item - get 2 cokes and it's just 5 bucks! Thursdays is College ID night!

The IMA (Indianapolis Art Museum) is open every day (I think) and it is always free to get in and look around.

Also there is the Indiana State Museum. I have not been there myself but I want to go. The IMAX theater is attached to it. it plays 3Ds movies.

There is lots to do downtown. There is another Crackers down town, as well as the Circle Center Mall, Night clubs (if you are old enough), lots of places to eat - I like 'the old spaghetti factory' but it seems to be getting bad reviews on here. P.F. Changs come highly recommended.
Broad Ripple is the 'college' area - it has a ton of night clubs, and a few place to eat.
Castleton (North East side)is an okay area too - the Castleton Square Mall is a pretty good mall and there are loot of places to eat of there. Chalkies it over that way if you like to play pool.
Well those are just some of the stuff that I like to go - but like TyCStover said what are you in to?
Oh and yes there is always Race day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I just learned Thursdays is ladies night at ClimbTime Indy, which gets you free gear rental: http://www.climbtimeindy.com/
Discounts for couples on Friday's date night, too!
Oh and I can tell you that the Indy Zoo is a tad over rated. Just took my Niece (4) and Nephew (2) there in Sept and my Nephew kept calling the animals dead. And it's expensive. So save you money on that one.
A picnic on the canal? Don't get run over by the bicycles and the joggers...and don't sit too close to the water...it kind of smells.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a walk along the canal as much as the next Indy resident. Still, if I was making a day of it, I'd probably opt to rent a paddle boat for an hour or two and then head downtown to eat in whatever restaurant smelled the best that day.
"If you're bored in Indianapolis, it's your own fault," or so I've told persons just moving to the city or long-time residents alike. Arts?! Got it. Sports of all kids?! Yup. Food?! Oh, yeah baby (and so much of it is worth making a repeat visit.)
I like the Symphony and a post-concert martini at Nicky Blane's. I love roller blading on the canal in the summer, followed by the post-workout "put the pounds back on" sunset dinner (not romantic in any way...you'll see what I mean) at the Distillery. I still think the IDADA First Friday takes the proverbial cake. While thousands of folks go to it each month, and I always run into friends, colleagues, and end up making an entire evening of art, goodies, wine, and post-event cocktails...I still call it Indy's best kept secret.
Any of these are sure to please - whether 21 or an octogenarian.
Bored ladies are welcome to come to my house.
Depends on what you like. Currently there are three main options: Get wasted at a bar, go to a bible study or stay home and watch TV.
Anybody who says that Indianapolis' art scene is worthwhile is deluding themselves - we all know that the sign of a successful Indianapolis artist is the U-Haul in front of their studio.
If you want something that is close to something different: Wednesday nights are Mutiny at the Casbah in Broad Ripple (no cover- weird music and people) Thursday nights the Indianapolis Museum of Art stays open until 9pm. And the 1st and 3rd Thursdays are "Fake Jazz" at Club Level.
