When one sees an ad for a movie made by the director of the Bourne Identity and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, your expectations are raised to fairly high levels, as both of these were outstanding action movies involving great storylines. Jumper, however, does not live up to its cousins in quality - sure, there's good, fast-paced action (at which the seventh grader in me squeals with excitement when he sees the teleportation fight sequences), but the story almost seems rushed into just so you can get to the action.
The narration at the beginning is painful - much like any narration of that sort ("My name is _. I can __. I used to be a chump, just like you, blahbity blahbity blah."). I'd rather the movie shows me instead of telling.
Also, the casting of Hayden Christensen is all right, but I think they could have done better. I didn't really like the character that much, as he seemed a "chump", as mentioned before, and seemed intent on illustrating that you were too.
Anyway, it was an okay action movie overall - with really good special effects, don't get me wrong - but it just didn't live up to its potential. Or my expectations.
