Hello everyone!! We have been away for a couple weeks, but are back and wanting your input for Uncorked...A Wine Experience. This week we want to know how you came to enjoy wine? Did you try it when you were young and foolish? Was it something you acquired a fancy for when you became older? Do you not like wine? We want to hear what you have to say about the fun world that is wine.

I was (and often still am) a beer guy. Several years ago a guy I used to work with and his wife introduced me to wine. They were all about reds and taught me a little bit about how to find what I liked. I took some of their recommendations and from there, had just enough knowledge to learn more on my own. Ed and Pam, not sure if I ever thanked you for that. So, thanks!

I would bartend events that served wine/beer only. I would sample the wines during the events. I really enjoy it, but I'm still very uninformed on the subject of wine. I usually just pick up a bottle at Alabama Liquors based on the label/suggestion.

Hello, and thanks for taking the time to reply. You are exactly the type of consumer we are wanting at Uncorked...A Wine Experience. Just come in, look around see what has a cool label or sounds interesting and try it. A large majority of consumers purchase a wine based on what the bottle or label look like.

I didn't really start to enjoy wine until my late 20's. Since then, I have learned about the varieties, how its made, visited several wineries and even made a few batches at home.

For me, it is a social beverage; I also enjoy drinking and sampling in a place that is not too pretentious. I had a really bad expereince at Deano's with a snotty little waiter who pooped on my nose for stating that I enjoyed some Indiana wines. Since then, I have not been back to any wine bars.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for sharing! We too have ran into those who have very strong opinions as to what they like or feel wine should be. We say pitty those, as wine is so much more. No pretention at Uncorked! We will feature over 100 wines, including those from Indiana!! Will be sure to send you a personal invite! Thanks for the feedback.

Growing up in restaurants made it a given to learn about, and then I just absolutely fell in love with the amazing palette you can find in a single bottle.. and living an hour away from Napa Valley for a year really helped.. nothing like a drive through the vineyards!

As a server, we had regular wine tastings as part of our job. Learning about all of the different kinds and origins, and especially the layers of flavor within, helped me to love wine.

Now its a social thing and when my girlfriend and I have something to celebrate, its usually with a really nice wine.

Okay, so I started out drinking Boone's Farm in college! Then a sister who'd been living in Germany came home talking up German wines, so I tried those. A trip to Napa in my 20s introduced me to wine tastings. I kind of settled on merlot as a favorite early on -- even during the "Sideways"-inspired popularity of pinot. But I really didn't get into wine until the last 5 or 10 years when I finally had the money to start buying a wider variety of wines on a regular basis and trying new things.

My first wine was homemade elderberry. A friend of my Grandmother made it. I really learned and got into wine while I was stationed in Italy where I became a good table wine fan.

Thanks for the comments. We too will be doing various tastings for our employees as well. That is the only true way that you can make qualified recommendations to your consumers.

Wine has become a social thing for us as well. When we have something to celebrate...like days that end in "Y" we dig into the wine cellar and see what comes out.
